New Tender Awarded to Unicorn Systems in Finland, Norway and Sweden

Unicorn Systems has been awarded a tender from eSett Oy, a common service organization of three Nordic transmission systems: Finnish Fingrid, Norwegian Statnett, and Swedish Svenska kraftnät.

Unicorn Systems shall provide an IT solution for balance settlement, for accounting, invoicing, and communications, taking a critical role in the establishment of a common end-user electricity market in the three Nordic countries.

Before the settlement operation starts in 2015, eSett will concentrate on building the required processes and technology for operation of the common market.

For this purpose, the company signed a contract with Unicorn Systems a.s. for delivery of the IT solution for deviation settlement, for accounting, invoicing, and communications.

Unicorn Systems will provide a Balance Settlement Solution (BSS) built on the Damas Energy platform, a web portal for both traders and public, and a custom-built messaging service component employing open-source technologies (Unicorn Open Platform) and provided as a service (SaaS).

An accounting and invoicing system (Microsoft AX) will be provided through a local subcontractor, Digia, based in Finland. The commission also includes service and support.

With the establishment of the joint service company eSett Oy, the Transmission System Operators Fingrid, Statnett, and Svenska Kraftnät have taken a big step towards the establishment of a common Nordic electricity market.

The new company should provide balance settlement services for power electricity deliveries to consumers in Finland, Norway, and Sweden from the second half of 2015, when regulatory changes and preparation of market players are completed. This remarkable international project aims to lower the entry barriers for Finnish, Norwegian, and Swedish markets through equal and shared settlement rules.

This will increase competition in the electricity markets in these countries, reduce long-term costs for the market participants, and finally establish a common Nordic end-user market.

“We are pleased to take this big and important step towards an important milestone in the establishment of a common Nordic end-user market,”

says Vice President Ole Jacob Høyland.

“We firmly believe this will contribute towards a more competitive and well-functioning cross-border market.”
“I am very happy that Unicorn Systems has been awarded a tender in the Nordic market, as it proves its rising position in the European IT market,”

says Jan Konrád, International Services Director Unicorn Systems.
