The professional and personal challenges, the high and lows, the failures and the success? Startup Weekend is a global grassroots movement across 450+ cities where developers, designers, marketers, product managers, and startup enthusiasts come together to pitch ideas, form teams, build products, and launch startups – all in just one weekend.
All Startup Weekend events follow the same basic model: anyone is welcome to pitch their startup idea and receive feedback from their peers. Teams organically form around the top ideas (as determined by popular vote) and then it’s a 54 hour frenzy of business model creation, coding, designing, and market validation. The weekends culminate with presentations in front of local entrepreneurial leaders with another opportunity for critical feedback.
What’s different about this one?
With women leading less than 7% of venture-backed startups, it’s no secret that there are fewer women founding companies than men. That’s why we have one special focus for this Startup Weekend: connecting and showcasing the talents of women and aspiring female entrepreneurs. Pitches will be women-only and mentors and judges will be female-heavy. But that doesn’t mean men aren’t welcome to participate too! We know the best teams have diverse and balanced perspectives, so men are encouraged to join teams as well.
