Softengi Team Tested The Augmented Reality Module Integrated by Google

Besides the augmented reality module in the Google Translate, which will make easier real-time translation of signs for travelers, Google has also integrated the simultanious speech translation module enabling real-time speech recognition and translation.

Google has updated its camera mode in the Google Translate mobile application to translate words and phrases directly on your screen in real time.

So if you find an important sign in the Kyiv Metro in cyrillic, which you don’t understand, now you can take your smartphone, tap the camera icon and wait for a translation to appear on your screen.

The option currently translates English, French, German, Italian, Russian, Portuguese and Spanish words, and Google says the support for additional languages will be added soon.

Softengi team has already tested the feature with English-Russian translation and so far it looks quite fast and readable.

Since now Google Translate application also allows you to speak with the foreigner and have each phrase translated into your language as text and audio.

Until now this option worked, but required manual switching every time the other person talked.

As it was promised by Google, in this update they speed up this process with smarter language recognition and speaker switching.

So when you start the app and press the microphone icon, it’ll recognise which of the two languages is being spoken, offer a translation and then automatically alternate whenever the conversation flips over.

No more switching between speakers.

This option with speech translation Softengi team hasn’t tried yet, but we will try to do it in the nearest future.
