Unicorn Systems Deploys New Platform Version for EirGrid Group

Unicorn Systems has deployed a new version of the AMP (Auction Management Platform) with advanced features for EirGrid Group, the Irish transmission system operator.

The project goal was to modify the Damas trading system for explicit auctions, deployed by Unicorn Systems at EirGrid in 2011. Unicorn Systems bears the responsibility for development, support, and maintenance of this trading system.

Damas facilitates electricity transmission capacity trading on Moyle and East-West Interconnector high-voltage submarine power lines, connecting the island of Ireland with Great Britain. Moyle Interconnector offers the transmission capacity of 450MW and EWIC the capacity of 530MW.

The new modification fully reflects the specifics of the all-island Single Electricity Market, as well as the customer’s needs. Among other things, it provides more flexible submission of trades between partner transmission system operators (TSOs) and faster data interchange. Thus, the new modification offers higher efficiency.

“I am glad Unicorn Systems finished the project on the schedule agreed and further confirmed its unique position in Western Europe, as the current leading operator of trading systems for submarine power lines,”

commented Jan Konrád, International Services Director, Unicorn Systems, on deployment of the new platform version.

“Deployment of the new platform version has optimised submitting of trading transactions, which assist in making the electricity trading process easier for market participants, and contributing to closer integration of the Single Electricity Market  with that of the EU,”

said Robin McCormick, EirGrid Group’s Executive Director for the Single Electricity Market Operator (SEMO) and System Operator for Northern Ireland (SONI).
