Report: GlobalLogic Automotive TechTalk

GlobalLogic regards software development not only in terms of programming languages, but in terms of domain areas as well.

We analyze which instruments allow to create the best solutions for certain industries, and we are glad to share our ideas.

This is why on September 2 we held GlobalLogic Automotive TechTalk Lviv, a meeting dedicated to the newest technological solutions in automotive sphere.

It was pleasant to note that the subject appeared to engage a lot of local specialists!

The program included two speeches by speakers with a profound experience in automotive development.

The talk by Volodymyr Babchuk (Senior Embedded Developer, GlobalLogic) was dedicated to creation of a prototype of an in-vehicle multimedia system prototype.

Volodymyr spoke about the process of creation of a car module multimedia system concept (CarPC). The project started with a customer’s unusual idea, which was followed by the development of a prototype, production of hardware, and finally the development of software to manage the system. As a result, in quite a short time the idea was turned into a working prototype, which was demonstrated at CES-2015 exhibition in Las Vegas.

Our second speaker, Pavlo Suikov (Senior Software Engineer, GlobalLogic), delivered a talk entitled «The experience of creation of hypervised systems for automotive multimedia market». Within his presentation Pavlo spoke about the creation of Nautilus, a hypervised system based on Xen.

This project developed from a prototype based on Android updated for automotive certification, to a multioperational system that includes Android and two Linux domains, while being capable to hold RTOS (particularly, QNX) without losing real-time properties. Moreover, the talk included the issues of high-level architecture, creation of HMI based on QML, graphics optimization and a planner.

Pavlo has also considered the processes of integration of the existing drivers and the advantages that such integration provides due to use of a hypervisor.

This project was demonstrated at CES 2014 and CES 2015 exhibitions, and, to a wide extent, is being developed as an open source project in collaboration with Xen community; it is also a subject of active discussions at Xen hackathons.
