Embedded Lviv TechTalk #2

Start: May 22, 2014
Address: 26 Sheptyts’kykh st., GlobalLogic, GL-Club, Lviv, Ukraine
A traditional Embedded Lviv TechTalk will be held on May 22. Presentations of GlobalLogic’s experts will be dedicated to widely discussed issues of embedded development*.
  • QEMU+Rasbperry Pi. Volodymyr Shymansky & Igor Kaplynsky (GlobalLogic, Kyiv).
This presentation will deal with a typical embedded development task — creating software for hardware which does not exist yet. In order to solve this problem the authors suggest using QEMU emulator, upgrading it and making it support new platforms and devices, if necessary. The developers are going to describe their own practical example. They have emulated a popular Raspberry Pi computer in QEMU, adding support of accelerometer to the virtual device. Next, a program to visualize accelerometer’s operation created under the emulator was easily launched at a real Raspberry Pi device.
  •  System Test Automation for Embedded Devices. Yuriy Kozak & Ihor Semochko (GlobalLogic, Lviv).
This presentation will be dedicated to automatic system testing in embedded devices. It will consider a challenging task: automated testing of a system, which is  of a “True Real Time”-type, runs on a non-PC device and does not have debug port. The developers will bring examples from their experience.
  • Security Vulnerabilities: Heartbleed & Buffer Overflow. Nazar Mota (GlobalLogic, Lviv).
You must have heard about the most dangerous security flaw in 2014 – Heartbleed. This bug in OpenSSL is being described as catastrophic by experts: ‘On the scale of 1 to 10, this is an 11′. Buffer Overflow is one of the simplest, but also one of the most common vulnerabilities. Nazar Mota’s presentation will be dedicated to a real practical example of how not to write your code. *The program is subject to changes. Apart from reports, there will be a networking-party with cocktails and prizes raffle among the most active attendees. Contact: Julia Polikovska Register
