Be ready for global markets. Localization – where do I start? – Eleks at Lviv GameDev 2014

On 25th of January Eleks’ Localization had an occasion to visit GameDev Conference that was held in Lviv for the third time.

The conference brought together about 250 participants: indie game developers, game studios, well known publishers and people interested in games from all over Eastern Europe.

Localization Customer Engagement Manager, Vilena Serhiyenko, and Senior Localization Engineer, Andriy Lutsuk, as a speaker, represented Eleks Localization at the event.

The topic covered internationalization and localization experiencerelated to games.

And namely the aspects that shall be considered by developers to produce a game easily adaptable to various locations. Below, you can watch the video of the presentation (in Ukrainian, subtitles coming soon).

A few words about the conference itself, it represented different platforms, but mainly browser social flash games and mobile games. The program was divided into two streams: Business and Technologies.

Apart from speaking at the conference, Eleks team also attended interesting presentations. The most valuable for us were “Tyran” – RTS game” introduced by Mykola Ursatyj and Danylo Syrotynsky, and “20 Things Successful Game Developers Do Beyond Making Games” presented by Vlad Micu.

The last presentation was dedicated to 20 important things the developer must take care of, apart from writing the game, in order to make it successful. Other remarkable reports were presented by game publishers. We learned a lot about the promotion and methods of monetization, or more specifically, about how to make money by developing games.
