GlobalLogic at Intel RealSense App Challenge

Five ideas by GlobalLogic consultants are among 1000 best concepts from all over the world, submitted to Intel RealSense App Challenge.

This is an international competition with a prize fund of $1 000 000. The participants compete in development of innovative applications for a new 3D Intel RealSense camera, which is able to recognize 3D objects, human gestures and emotions.

The finalists received Intel RealSense cameras and Software Development Kits to work on their ideas. Early demos of two GlobalLogic experts’ solutions have already been submitted for the contest. We are glad to introduce them.

Emma App

The application provides colorful environment for communication with the closest people and children entertainment. Using such features of Intel RealSense technology as face points recognition, voice recognition, background subtraction and augmented reality, it is possible to add animated illustrations of user’s current emotions on the background of any video chat in real time.

Camera Oculus Rift RealSense (CORRS)

This solution combines the possibilities of Intel RealSense camera, a typical PTZ camera and Oculus Rift device. The whole system allows to conveniently operate a remote camera with movements of head and body.

Three more projects are in progress now. The first one — Eye Control — is an eye-operated communication and control system that enables people with disabilities to communicate and interact with the world. Another project — Theater of Shadows — is an interactive entertainment for children and their parents, which transforms users’ palms shadows into animated animals and other characters.

The fifth solution — a 3D modelling interface — will add gesture control to 3D modelling applications like Blender or CAD systems like SolidWorks, which will enable convenient intuitive interaction with 3D objects under construction.
