Swedish-Ukrainian Beetroot Academy Opening 4 New Schools in Ukraine
Beetroot Academy, a Swedish-Ukrainian non-profit IT school teaching practical skills that enable students to enter the job market immediately, is opening four new schools in Ukraine to educate talented Ukrainians who want to and have the capacity to join the global IT sphere.
The four new cities are Zaporizhia, Ivano-Frankivsk, Mariupol and Nikolaev. Beetroot Academy hopes to rejuvenate parts of these cities by infusing international knowledge, network and a progressive teaching philosophy that’s still unique on the Ukrainian market.
Why is this interesting? Beetroot Academy targets mid-sized cities with relatively small or immature IT sectors. The opportunities we create in design and development are a fantastic tool for building a new, modern middle-class in Ukraine, as it offers high salaries and many international touch-points. Beetroot Academy’s model has shown successful, with 70% of graduates landing jobs after finishing education.
History: Five academies are already educating students elsewhere in Ukraine: in Poltava, Kyiv, Odessa, Kramatorsk and Chernihiv. The first one was founded by Swedish entrepreneurs Andreas Flodström and Gustav Henman in 2014. Previously, Beetroot Academy has worked together with UNDP to educate IDPs (Internally Displaced People) from the conflict zone in Eastern Ukraine. Beetroot Academy puts a focus on bringing women into IT and works with donors to provide scholarships to the most promising students.
